AIDS
Cultural Practices Awareness Program in Nigeria
The statistics of AIDS in Nigeria, the most populous country
in Africa, are staggering. A report released jointly by the Word
Health Organization and UN-AIDS reveals that HIV/AIDS currently
afflicts 5.4 percent of the population. This problem has created
2.5 million orphans.
As social warriors with a commitment to the society’s most
vulnerable, we have coordinated with NGOs, family planning clinics
and outreach workers, Rehoboth deploys mobile education units
to increase awareness and knowledge in local communities of the
devastating impact of AIDS.
Our program focuses on prevention, care and treatment, support
for orphans whose parents died of AIDS, monitoring the status
of the epidemic, coordination with various health departments,
research and the creation of a supportive environment in order
to eliminate the stigma and ignorance associated with AIDS. This
program is geared toward the inhabitants of rural areas.
